Joseph Pilates was the creator of this proven method of body conditioning. A sickly child who suffered from asthma, rickets & rheumatic fever, he subsequently dedicated his life to improving his physical strength. He began studying body-building, yoga & gymnastics, and by the age of 14 was fit enough to pose for anatomical charts. Joseph came to believe that the "modern" life-style, bad posture & inefficient breathing lay at the roots of poor health. He ultimately created a series of exercises & training techniques, and engineered all the equipment, specifications & tuning required to teach his methods properly. He devised and adopted his philosophy based on ‘A sound mind in a healthy body’. Practiced regularly, Pilates yields numerous benefits: |
* Strength & flexibility, concentrating on core stability & the pelvic floor. * Co-ordination, both muscular & mental. * Improved posture & balance. * Greater lung capacity & circulation through deep healthy breathing. * Increased bone density & joint health. |
As a result, the advantage of enhanced physical wellbeing carries over into all areas of every day life. |
